Accessibility

Rosehaven Council wants people to be able to use this website regardless of disability, access need, device or the way they navigate the web. Accessibility is treated as part of publishing quality, not as an additional feature applied after content is written.

Using the website

The site uses LocalGov Drupal components and structured web content. Pages are organised with headings and descriptive links so people can navigate using a keyboard, screen reader or other assistive technology. Information should remain understandable when text is enlarged, and meaning should not depend on colour alone.

The site is also designed to work across different screen sizes. Content is written as web prose rather than relying on dense documents where an ordinary webpage is more appropriate.

Current accessibility testing

The public website is tested as it develops. Automated checks are useful for identifying issues such as contrast, heading order and missing technical information, but they are not a substitute for reading pages, testing navigation and checking whether the content itself is understandable.

Recent acceptance testing has included the homepage and core service, council-and-democracy, contact and accessibility pages. Accessibility defects identified during testing are corrected in the publishing product rather than being treated as acceptable simply because the page remains technically usable.

Documents and future content

Where information can be published as an accessible webpage, that will normally be preferable to creating a document solely for presentation. Where a document is genuinely required, its structure, reading order, headings, tables and other accessibility features need to be considered as part of publication.

Reporting an accessibility problem

Rosehaven Council has not yet opened a public contact channel. There is therefore no authorised Rosehaven email address or feedback form to give here. When a genuine public contact route opens, this page will explain how to report an accessibility problem or request information in an alternative form.

Reviewing the site

Accessibility will continue to be checked when new page types, documents, navigation or transactional services are introduced. This statement will be updated to reflect the actual service and the contact arrangements in force at the time.
